Toronto to Sydney, Australia

Looking for the best, cheapest fares from Toronto to Sydney. I've been getting quotes from between $1500 and &$1800 CDN and was hoping for something better than that. I'm also willing to fly out from NYC. Any suggestions? I'm looking at travelling anytime within the next four months and was hoping to keep my eyes peeled open for special deals.

Please advise.
