The List I tend to follow is the Travelers’ Century Club (TCC) which is currently a list of 327 sovereign states, assorted overseas territories and other categories. Not everyone will agree with the list - Indonesia and the UK, for instance, have seven separate listings each and this is because of their varying degrees of political autonomy. Some islands (such as Crete or Norfolk Island) are listed separately if they are beyond 100 miles of the mainland. I’ve met several people in weird places like Pitcairn Island and Tristan da Cunha who are chasing down this list in quite an obsessive, even slavish manner.
As for myself, I have currently visited 187 of which 118 are fully sovereign/UN member states. My list is divided as per the TCC Club. http://travelerscenturyclub.org/coun...nd-territories

Pitcairn was great - it's always a risk landing there as there is no protective reef. We went on a 100-passenger expedition cruise ship equipped with zodiacs, making landings 'almost' guaranteed. But you never know. People wanting to visit Pitcairn on a big ship will be disappointed - what happens is that big ships lay offshore and islanders come aboard to sell souvenirs etc. But if you don't land you cannot claim you have been there. The island's Bounty history is of course fascinating and that made it No.1 on my bucket list.
Expedition cruise ships also visit the other islands in the Pitcairn group - Oeno, Ducie and Henderson which is a World Heritage Site. These islands are uninhabited atolls and are great places for sea bird colonies.
Our trip sailed from Tahiti and went to Easter Island.

OK, spent 2 weeks in Papua New Guinea in September, then 12 days in October visiting (safe) places in Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso (Burkina was the most fun btw).
So now I'm down to just 4 countries left to visit:
(1) Pakistan
(2) Syria
(3) Yemen
and (shudder) the exotic and elusive
(4) Bahamas.
Also, while I was in PNG, I visited Bougainville for a couple of days, since they're having an independence referendum next June which seems highly likely to pass (the New Caledonia one next month will almost certainly fail). I'll be heading for Pakistan in December, and trying for Damascus early next year. Yemen is a bigger problem...
But there is light at the end of the tunnel! There are varying opinions online as to how many people have done this, so not sure where I fit in...

Congrats, my 100th was also at age 30. Now in my latter part of my 30s, it does become increasingly harder to add new ones. Some places I just have no desire to visit, and some I keep going back to.

53, and cunningly getting in most of the big ones (excepting Russia) so it looks more impressive here
I feel like I've been to lot of places in the last 14 years, since posting 53, but I'm only up to 83 - although added Russia, and quite a lot of Africa ... map

I agree once 30 hits the dot, it means the marriages, babies and everything will trample over travels
And will get harder to add new countries since there are still your annual trips that are must-do.
No one is fighting for a rock in the ocean LOL and Oddly enough HK is visa-free to Yemen (accordingly to IATA)
*Still don't want to end up on any watchlist
[I saw the 'i've posted to this thread arrow' against this in travelbuzz, and looked for my post - above, from 2004.]

I visited a different country.
I have been in Mexico, The Bahamas, Canada, Israel, Switzerland, UK, Netherlands, Germany, France, and Italy, as well.
I never been in Asia, Australia, South Pacific, South America and South Africa. We don't go to other Middle Eastern countries. We are not allowed to go there. Due to the Middle Eastern restrictions.
