59 for me as of now.

Was in a contest with a couple friends to see who could get to 50 countries, 50 US states, 6 continents and 2 unique countries first. A unique country was anywhere neither of the other two friends had visited. So if I visited Turkmenistan, giving me a unique country, they could quash it as a unique country by visiting it themselves.

Had a lot of fun, but I lost on the US states.

It didn't help that one friend quit his job, and took a year on a RTW ticket picking up countries.

Now we are back at it, on the way to 100. Going to take a while on that one, as you tend to visit the first 50 again while transiting to the next 50.

This has been fun to think about. I thought I had been around a bit, but compared to some of these other postings I've got a long way to go.

"Only" 57 countries so far.

Impressive!!!

Just 273 countries left before I can start competing with him...

I wonder how many frequent flyer miles he has collected during the years.

I like the idea of pinning on a world map the places I have been to. As a fervent collector of maps (yes, such thing exists...) of all kind, I could probably devote one for this...

It won't cost me an arm and a leg in pins as I have a quite modest list so far, based on the TCC list :

Total 25 out of 317...

Pacific Ocean : 0 out of 40
North America : 4 of 5
Central America : 0 out of 8
South America : 0 out of 13
Carribean : 4 out of 27
Atlantic Ocean : 0 out of 13
Europe and mediterranean : 13 out of 67
Antartica : 0 out of 9
Africa : 0 out of 52
Middle East : 0 out of 21
Indian Ocean : 3 out of 14
Asia : 1 out of 48

Canada
St Pierre et Miquelon
Continental US
Mexico
Guadeloupe and dependancies (all of them)
French leeward Islands (both of them)
Dutch leeward Islands
Martinique
Andorra
Belgium
Czech federated republic
England
France (not THAT an achievement...)
Germany
Italy
Luxembourg
Netherlands
Russia
Spain
Switzerland
Wales
Mauritius
Mayotte
Reunion
Japan

Scheduled on the next six monthes :

China
Australia
New Zealand
New Caledonia
French Polynesia

Well, the list of 317 used by the Travelers Century Club is quite different from the list most of us are using. The Travelers Century Club in some cases breaks up sovereign nations into smaller units. For example, the San Blas Islands are part of the Republic of Panama. I've been to those islands, so that would add one to my total count. And I'm pretty sure there are other differences that would also increase my count slightly.

Most of us posting here are more or less using the list of 250 countries that ozstamps posted at the beginning of this thread:

All that said, though, I'm not detracting from your friend's achievement! Have you persuaded him to join FlyerTalk yet, or is he too busy bagging countries?
