Around the world??

Those of you that have used an around the world business class ticket, is it worth it? Are they any cheaper than going back and fourth? I am looking to go to Hong Kong in May and a Business Class fare on NWA is about $5,000. Would an around the world be cheaper? Does NWA even have them?

I did a trip London to Australia and back a couple of years ago and went out over the Pacific and back through Asia. Looked then like the round-the-world and the normal London to Australia return prices were about comparable anyway - after all, the mileage is about the same. This was with Qantas (London to LAX they put me with Virgin, surprisingly).

NW/KL have a rag-tag collection of airlines for their RTW tickets, with many curiously not part of their alliance:

MH/NW/KL/9W/AS/CM/CO/EK/FJ/HV/KQ/SA/MA/UX

Although, come the time of your trip, maybe it'll be a Skyteam one you're after...

On oneWorld at least, the ten-day minimum trip duration (actually slightly more because of how they figure it) keeps most business travelers from using RTW fares.

Other than that, and perhaps other issues that are specific to your situation, it works.

The danger is that, once you decide to go the RTW route, you'll start thinking "I can get more miles by adding this segment here, or that one there, for the same fare..." That way lies insanity. To confirm this, just check any of the alliance fora.

(FWIW, I expect to do an RTW this summer, and am already suffering wasted-miles anxiety.)

Yes, NWA has a Business Class Around the World Ticket, it is around $5700, coach is I believe around $3200.

I believe there is a CO/SQ RTW in J for $4,400 which represents exceptional value. You might check for a similar arrangement by NW.
