Is Bumptracker.com Dead?

I just took a VDB from RDU to CLE ($250 CO voucher for getting in 3 hrs later).

I tried to post to bumptracker but keep getting no response from the site.

Does anyone know if the site is still "alive"

It works, but I am getting this error:

Welcome to the Crude FlyerTalk Flight Bump Tracker

An error has occurred, 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)

Probably some temporary server issues.

It always seemed like kind of a silly application to me. Does it have any practical application?

Yes, collecting data on bumps. If you can identify patterns, you can purposefully book on routes that are likely to be oversold.

Did you read the posts by Jerry Crump? If not check them out. Its a thread about booking flights that will garner bumps.

A:

I just use the $$ data for indications of what a "going rate" might be for a VDB. Granted, the data is only as good as what's entered.

Hope you are well.

As this is not related to mileage runs but rather tracking bumps, I'm moving this to TravelBuzz.

And since I know someone is going to ask why I'm moving this and not the other thread on obtaining bumps, it's a matter of practicality at this point. Had I seen that thread when it first began, I would have moved it as well. But as I've been travelling internationally and haven't had a good connection, and the thread has quite a few posts already, I don't want to confuse matters further by moving that one. My apologies if my flexibility in allowing that thread to remain appears as hypocrisy in moving this one, but I have to do what I think is right, and that means making decisions individually for posts.

Thanks for understanding, and feel free to follow this post in the TravelBuzz forum.

At this time, bumptracker.com has far too little information to be of any use.

In order to make a good decision, you need more than just historical information. Even if you had all the airlines' data (which they aren't going to share, obviously), that won't help for future flights.

In order to select flights more likely to need volunteers, you need access to the flight's booking levels. That is also proprietary information, so your only option is to guess.

I emailed Andy and he solved the problem - he'd turned the database engine off for awhile. Give it a try now.

I tried to enter a bump from CLT to TLH, but TLH is not one of the airport choices.

I've added some enhanced reports and move the site to a more stable server so hopfully the occasional donwtime in the past will be resolved. However, the amount of data collected on many routes still so low there is no statistical basis for making a decision. As always, please submit your bumps and if you have suggestions send them my way.
