SFO-YVR: Which side of the plane?
The title says it all. I've never flown this route -- which side of the plane has the best views? I'm guessing the best views are to the east?
|
The flight heads inland soon after leaving SFO. Sitting on the right side northbound, you generally should get good view of the inland (cascade range?) mountains which may or may not include Lassen, Crater Lake, 3 sisters, Mts. Hood, Rainier, St. Helens a,nd maybe Baker.
On the left side you should be able to see the Olympics when descent starts on or shortly after passing over SEA. [This message has been edited by terenz (edited Feb 24, 2004).] |
I think the left side offers more interesting views of Mt. Shasta, Crater Lake, etc.
|
I've flown SFO-SEA many times. You want the right side of the plane for the volcano views. Once the winds were so strong at altitude we held at 18K for the trip. Yowza, it wasn't for the window I might have reached out and scored some ice for my drink.

Yeah, I re-thought it, and you and terenz are correct. Sorry.
|
Definitely the right side.
|
right side...and prey for visability...the fog in both san francisco and seattle can leave you looking at clouds from take off till landing.
on the way back, I would suggest the left hand side (facing east) because often times the approach to SFO has an awesome inward (into the bay) looking view of the golden gate. [This message has been edited by MattFS218 (edited Feb 24, 2004).] |
Great - thank you all for the advice.
