Took the PATH train to WTC yesterday
 

Typically I take the NJ Transit train directly into Penn but because of typical Transit snafus, I ended up in Hoboken. Since I needed to go to the east side, I decided to take the PATH to the WTC and then walk to the 4/5 trains. I hadn't been on it since the terrorist attack. Well the pit of the WTC remains is there for everybody on the train to see. You go right through it but unlike looking down on to the site, you are at eye-level; you are there. Somehow I thought the trip would be completely underground. How wrong I was. It was startling for me.

Very surreal. It was especially strange (for lack of a better word) for me when I took the trip into WTC a few days after the station reopened, for I was accompanied by three guys who made it out of tower one on September 11.

Working in 7WTC for several years up to 8:48AM the day of the attack, I still feel compelled to visit occasionally (still working close by). Went to see the new PATH station a couple of days after opening. It is an eerie experience.

Walk towards the connection with the A/C/E subway and you can make out where the new floor stops and the original WTC floor still exists.

Wow. I had a consulting job in lower Manhattan that ran from November, 2001 to January, 2002. It was an odd time to be there- they were still reeling from the shock and businesses were trying to get on their feet again. I took the ferry from Hoboken to lower Manhattan and always paused for a prayer as we passed the wreckage. I knew two people who died in the attack (more who survived, fortunately) and my main contact at the client had lost a son in 2 WTC.

Glad to hear the PATH is running there again. It almost makes me want to go back to the East coast and check it out.

Have you taken the PATH to Exchange Place and then turned around to return to the WTC? I'm not sure if you are ready for that but if you are, it is quite an experience.

You get shivers down your spine when for the first time you arrive into the great void of what used to be the Trade Center. It's not a very good feeling.

Havent taken the PATH itself (but I only did that about twice in my life anyway) but I do get flashbacks to that day when I walk past 7WTC on Vesey and see "my" building currently being rebuilt.

Yea, my wife took the train through there a short time after it reopened and was shocked that it was right out in pit. She worked in WTC1 although was fortunately out of the office on Sept 11. She was particularly shocked to see the original steps that apparently survived the building collapse.
