I think it's petty to get all huffy about the nature of America's Business character. How do you think successful people got where they are? You have the right to protest as much as you want in America. You could get on anyone's bandwagon, or start your own. Personally, I'm happy with OUR business practices. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...um/biggrin.gif I don't think I'll let ads on tray tables disturb my peace of mind. So why are people shunning SPAM? Why are people b*tching about pop-ups? Why are people fighting advertising pollution across American cities? Granted, many rich cities have more legislation than poor areas, but it seems to be a major issue for many. I'm not saying that all advertising is bad. But there has to be a limit to where it goes. When it begins to invade your private space, whether you like it or not, people want to speak out. I don't call it a bandwagon, I call it OUTRAGE. Good luck with your parking, and hope you'll tip the Valet so he can keep his American JOB. And don't forget to leave a tip per day to the maids as well!! They deserve decent paying jobs too!! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...um/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...um/biggrin.gif <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by ati2d: We WILL be paying for parking our SUV at the Hyatt http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...rum/tongue.gif. Those parking lots are probably owned by foreign interests. So the money is going either to foreign corporations, or to Paris Hilton. Which is more evil?? http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...um/biggrin.gif
*think*think*think* <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by whiteknuckles: You can bet your bippy that the parking lot in a big city like Washington isn't owned by some mom & pop outfit. Most likely it's owned by a big corporation intent on squeezing every last cent out of you that they can possible get. Purely for argument's sake:
How is this advertising more offensive than say the tray liners at McDonald's when you get it "for here," or the ads on the floors of grocery stores? For those of you who are upset about HP's move: do those other ads bother you as well? ------------------ "I just wanna wish you good luck, we're all counting on you" -Dr. Rumack |
Because you've got to look at the ad for the duration of your flight, that's why.
At McDonald's, if I don't like the ad, I chuck the tray liner, or the tray, or both. If not, I spill all types of grease on it, and toss it at the end of my meal. Besides, little kids like to draw on the tray liners with crayons. Hmm, that gives me some ideas about the HP tray ads http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...um/biggrin.gif The other point is this: where will the advertising stop? Surely not at the tray tables. Would you like to see the inside of your plane plastered from head to toe with ads? Your bathroom break is brought to you by "Heinz Ketchup"? Yes other ads offend me, if they are invasive. Try going to Phoenix and look at Grand Avenue sometime. The dump looks like all the ads in the world got trashed there. <font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Originally posted by g_leyser: Purely for argument's sake: How is this advertising more offensive than say the tray liners at McDonald's when you get it "for here," or the ads on the floors of grocery stores? I'm generally advertising-averse, especially to the non-informative types, and consider myself virtually immune to it. Particularly obnoxious advertising has led me to deliberately avoid sponsors for long periods of time. |
I offer you a look into your future.
