Hotels - A Destination in Itself

Where in the US and abroad have you come accross a hotel/resort where you can honestly say that you didn't leave the property grounds for the duration of your stay (min stay a week) because there was just so much to do and see without ever leaving the grounds?

For me personally, I don't believe such a place exists, but then I'm pretty sure I have ADD.

Do liveaboard dive boats count?

If not, I can't imagine any place outside a coma-care center fitting the bill for me.

A week? Even in the places I love most (and I mean entire cities, not hotels) I almost never stay a whole week. I climb the walls in even the best resort after three days.

If you like golf...MAYBE the Hyatt Hill Country resort outside San Antonio, Texas.
Otherwise MGM Grand, Las vegas...Though without the amusement rides it is not as great as it was.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I have had the opposite happen. That is, the location is so boring I just stayed in my room or went to the pool as these were the only things to do.

A week ? Absoultely zero...no way would I spend an entire week just in the hotel.I've been to a Club Med or two that did offer a lot of stuff and we spent a lot of time in the resort but a whole week, no way...

Not ever for a week. But I'd say Four Seasons in Vegas came close (maybe for 4 days). And technically it's not because the resort is extraordinarily beautiful.... I love the service, the pool, the spa...etc. And restaurants & entertainment are plentiful in Mandalay Bay.

Nowhere. I think I have ADD, too. I know places exist where you could live in the "compound" and be served drinks with umbrellas in them by the natives day after day, but I want to get out and see the area. If it's one of those places where you're really not welcome outside the hotel, I don't want to visit there.

The Boca Raton resort might be a possibility, but I'm also cheap. I found myself renting a bicycle so I could venture out and buy soda, cold cuts, etc. and not the hotel's prices for them. Another reason I can't be confined to the hotel premises. It would kill me to pay their prices ($22 for breakfast at the Radisson St. Petersburg when McDonald's is right next door?) even if I were spending my employer's money.

The deluxe hotels at Disney World are awfully nice. Some people (mostly locals) will spend a weekend there without going to the parks. For example, Animal Kingdom Lodge is fantastic for viewing the animals, plus has a nice pool and great restaurants. There are other things to do, like go on guided tours of the African art in the hotel.

someone beat me to Disneyworld. We've gone many times and never left Disney property... that is, until they opened the outlets http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif.

A week? I agree with taucher: I'd have to be comatose to not leave after a week.

It's possible that somewhere like Pinehurst could hold my attention for about 48 hours. But even then, I'd grow tired of overpriced hotel food and I'd want to go seek local cuisine.

There are only a few cities in the world that could hold my attention for one week, let alone a resort.

A week seems quite long not to leave. The only establishments that come to mind would be a cruise ship crossing the ocean (I've done this many times and been on the ship for more than a week without getting off and each time it was wonderful, but it technically is not just a hotel/resort.

The other would be at an all inclusive high end spa like Las Ventanas at Big Sur or other similar places. I've never had the pleasure of staying at any place like that yet, but I can imagine myself staying there for a week of treatments, just totally unwinding and relaxing and not minding too much that I never left the place for a week. Anyone ever stayed at one of those type places?
