Luggage search theft problems?
 

Has anything been done about the complaints of theft from checked luggage during security searches? I will be visiting relatives during Thanksgiving and want to bring Christmas presents (unwrapped, I guess) in my luggage --- but I am apprehensive about the tales of theft and no one assuming any responsibility for it afterwards (kind of "tough luck"). Has this changed, or what would people recommend, short of not using checked luggage to transport gifts (my friend is in the same boat, and she's going to mail all her gifts --- but that seems like such a waste).

I just buy gift cards. I stick them and envelope and voila! I got sick and tired of buying and shipping or lugging through the airport that I just gave up on that. Also if an item can be bought at my destination I do that as well. If I am buying toys for neices and nephews I just get there parents to buy them and I reimburse them or hit the toy store when I get to town.

Perhaps you could ship them ahead and tell your relatives not to open any boxes that arrive before you do. Bring some wrapping paper with you and wrap them when you get there.
