Best weather area, Germany late November?

I'm interesting in doing some light hiking/walking (NOT skiing) in Germany while I'm there in late November. Where in the country around that time of year am I least likely to encounter slush, horrible fog, and torrential downpours (not the best hiking weather), and at least a chance at a moderately clear sky (COLD weather is o.k.)?

I'm flying into Frankfurt.

November in Germany is exactly what you don't like: rainy, dull ... You may not see the sun for days and weeks.
If you have to go, the Rhine Valley (South of Taunus Mountain) or Freiburg might be O.K.

I'm going to Hamburg, Leipzig and Erfurt early next month, and am trying to minimize luggage etc. - do you think I could get away with a lined leather coat or will I need a heavier jacket (I won't have a "dress up" situation requiring an overcoat). Thanks!
