LON Hotel finding nightmare

Thanks to a fellow FT'er I found an Aussie Hotel booking service www.accomline.com and I booked for a Hotel in Central London for mid Oct. The price includes all taxes and breakfast and I found it to be a better deal than Expedia. However, more than 48 hours later I am still waiting to get confirmations...and the company says that they are still trying to get a response from the hotel. I am reluclant to Pricline one because I need to be in a specific area (Knightsbridge) Everything seems to be incredibly booked up at this time of the year and finding a great deal for a 4*-5* is very difficult. I've done a search on londontown.com and the forums. Any suggestions anyone?

Depends what you mean by a great deal? Check www.uk.laterooms.com for an indication of the price spread (only to mid Oct) in the area.

Knightsbridge is a bit too general as it covers a strip from South Ken, past Harrods and on up to Park Lane - in all about 1.5 miles of prime London real estate.

Laterooms is an excellent resource, I also recommend it.

You might also want to try http://www.lastminute.co.uk/ or its international relatives.

I used Accommodation Line to book a London hotel room last March. I was satisfied with the service provided. They did indeed take a couple of days to confirm the booking though. Your credit card is charged when a booking is made and there is then a cancellation fee.

Thanks for the pointers.
I managed to get a Mayfair 4* (although I prefer Knightsbridge proper) for 115 pounds
per night. Then I found a small 5* for only 130 pounds. Not bad at all! Well done FT!

Try http://www.ukhotel.com/london

That way you book directly with the hotels and don't pay commissions.
