New TSA Process for Boarding at JFK?

Just got this in an e-mail from aa:

Dear kcvt750,

New Security Screening Process At John F. Kennedy International - Boarding Pass Required At Checkpoint

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has established an enhanced screening process at John F. International Airport. All customers are required to obtain a boarding pass before entering the security checkpoint. Passengers traveling on wholly domestic itineraries are encouraged to obtain a boarding pass using Flight Check-In on AA.com, our fast and easy Self-Service Check-In machines or our Curbside Check-In service. Otherwise, before going to security, passengers must visit the American Airlines ticket counter.

For more details including a list of cities with this new enhanced screening process, please visit

Why is this any different than the norm? It seems that no airport that I've been through in the past two years lets you through security without a boarding pass.

Many airports let you through with something other then a boarding pass, an e-ticket, a confirmation, etc, for people getting their passes at the gate. They have been rolling out hte boarding pass only for a year or so airport by airport, terminal by terminal, so they just got around to that one.

The listing of airports that require it is over at

The good news is this means that gate-groping is finally going away at JFK. From now on, nearly all secondary searches (with limited exceptions) will occur at the checkpoint and not as you are about to board the airplane. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif
