South Pacific - WHEN???
 

I want to take the trip of a lifetime, or at least only can afford to take once in a lifetime to the South Pacific. I would like to take 4-6 weeks and travel across the entire area. Highlights of my trip wold include Syndney, The Gold Coast, New Zealand, and I would love some beach time in Tahiti or Fiji, etc...Now here is my question...I want the best weather for my trip...warm and sunny...When do I plan to go? I don't want to spend 3 of the weeks in inclement weather, I hate a rainy vacation. HELP!!!

I went in late April through early May several years ago for three weeks, when it was early autumn there.

Sydney was nice and sunny, but it was quite cloudy and chilly in the Blue Mountains area. Cairns was hot and humid with an occasional short rainfall. Ayer’s Rock was hot, sunny and dry.

New Zealand was a different story. It was quite rainy there with some sunshine on both the North and South islands. That neither affected my holiday nor did it bother me.

To summarize, I found Australia’s weather to be near-perfect that time of year, but I do not think the weather in New Zealand would suit your weather requirements. However, I would still recommend going to both places in the early spring, which is their early autumn.

I have never been to Fuji or Tahiti. Sorry.

Celebrate a special day there, such as an anniversary or birthday. If your birthday is in the winter, for example, celebrate it in the summer there!

Did you try looking at weatherbase ? They have data for most places by the month. Good to get a sense of the temp. etc. http://www.weatherbase.com

The best month to be in NZ is February. School holidays are over, tail end of summer, with still beautiful. Busy tourist season is over, prices for card, hotels, etc will be lower.

Enjoy NZ, I lived there for 8 very memorable years.

Last year I've been in Tahiti 3 times both in winter and summer time, even though there is no striking difference between seasons. Let us say that summertime (October-April) is hotter (temperature never fall below 27°C not even during the night and reaches 35°C), more humid (80%) and rainy (up to 2200mm of rain monthly on December and January). Sea temperature is around 25-27°C
In wintertime (May-September) temperatures are cooler (you may even think of bringing a sweater, since °C range between 18-21°C during night time) humidity and precipitation lower. Sea temperature falls just a couple od degrees.
That's all for Tahiti and Society islands (and Tuamotu as well, where temperatures are more stable and raining less frequent) , but if you plan to move versus Marquises or Australs it might be some difference.

For Sydney, and Gold Coast think LA or Miami type weather. i.e. no winter or bad season to speak of - Some more info here:
