Do you dislike flying aboard an ugly plane?
When I first started travelling, I flew United frequently because I liked the way the livery looked compared to AA or DL. Now I think I'm more objective.
In the UA forum there's a post about how ugly the A318. The thread comments about E-jets (Embraer 170?). Ugliness doesn't affect my opinion since I know that price and engineering considerations influence aircraft purchase, not beauty. Does a livery affect your perception of an airline? - me: not any more What jets do you think are pretty or ugly? - me: pretty-Concorde, VC-10, 767-300, F100, IL86 ugly-ERJ145, Tu134, Comet 4B, 737-400 |
You can't beat Concorde, a marriage of art and science.

Air Tahiti Nui, A340! Beautiful! Ugly: Southwest Airlines, 737's old colours as well as Alitalia's paint scheme. You'd think a country that produces famous artists would have a nicer painted airline! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...rum/tongue.gif

I like the 747-400, new 717, A-330 (cause it looks like an eagle with it’s wings spread), and the DeHavilland DH-106 Comet (wouldn’t fly on one but they sure did look cool with those integrated engines.)
I think that Air Jamaica has a paint scheme that is rather unbecoming of their planes. CX livery stands out but is not too flashy. |
My favorite is AA: I love seeing all of those silver birds lined up at ORD, gleaming in the sunlight.
I also liked the old-school UA and DL because they were, well, old-school. Least favorite: Southwest, Northwest Favorite types (appearance only): 747-400, 767-300, 757. Least favorite types: that stubby 737, F100, that stubby Airbus. |
Northwest is pretty ugly IMHO and AA's Retro plane is as well...
I've always believed Hawaiian has the prettiest birds out there. http://makeashorterlink.com/?Z2AB62F55 [This message has been edited by slippahs (edited 07-24-2003).] |
Favourite of the current schemes has to be Frontier, with their high quality artwork on the fin of wild animals in their natural habitat, each aircraft a different one.
It's just a shame that when boarding by jetbridges you don't get to see which one you are on. |
I think that the DC-10 / MD-11 has to be one of the ugliest planes still in use.
I actually like the look of the RJs. But my favourite jet to look at has to be the little BAe 146. They're like a Jack Russell - a little plane that thinks it's a big plane! |
Surely the L-1011 is the ugliest of them all - I always felt like I was in a flying coffin.

Well, here I go:
Favorite exterior appearance: MD-80, MD-90, MD-11, New 717, F-100 Favorite interior appearance: 777-200, 737-800 Least favorite exterior appearance: Any Russian airplanes, any Airbus airplanes, turboprops. Least favorite interior appearance: RJ-145 Favorite Livery: AA Least Favorite Livery: jetBlue ------------------ Best regards, Dairenn Lombard Los Angeles, CA [This message has been edited by dlombard (edited 07-24-2003).] |
Interesting opinions. Nobody has commented whether ugliness affects their choice of airline (or aircraft). For me, it used to (a bit) but not any more.

Personally I really like the Lan Chile scheme, especially on the A340.
Ugliest? Ummm. Perhaps Southwest. |
I always liked the Braniff "flying colors" paint schemes.

How about dirty?
NW DC9's are so old and they "feel" so dirty |
