Poll......Boeing or Airbus

I just wanted to get a sampling of what some of your personal prefernces in aircraft. Here are mine.

Wide body....I'd take the 744 anyday. It's still the grand daddy of all wide bodies. Not too crazy about the 777. It's such a loud plane. A346 is nice too, but it's not the 744.

Single aisle....A320. They have the little pop up screens (at least with BA), which I find to be such a nice feature. Plus they have in flight gps, which the Boeing single aisle planes don't have (at least with AA).

The fold down screens are also on A319s, A321s, B717s, B737s (700 and later), 767s (400), and I'm sure more.

F in a LH A340. Life is good.

From a NW/CO pax point of view:
B777 vs. A340/A330: B777 wins -- in addition, I like the curved interior architecture of the B777

DC9 vs. A319/A320: A319/A320 win -- it's quieter and a newer plane http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...rum/tongue.gif

DC10 vs. A330/A340: A330/A340 win -- it's a newer plane http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...rum/tongue.gif

B737 vs. A319/A320: I don't care.

B757 vs. A319/A320: B757 wins -- it's a bigger plane

B747 vs. A340/A330: B747 wins -- it's a bigger plane

B747 vs. A380: B747 wins -- A380 has too many pax -- luggage claim will be a nightmare

First Class on a British Airways 747-400 will forever and always be the best travel experience. BOEING all the way.

I don't care if your in F on an A380. It's scary to be flying with that many people. I've no doubts it'll fly, but for it's capacity - waaaayyyy too big.

Give me upstairs on a 747 in J (CX, QF or BA) anyday.....

(for those of us who can't afford F)....

A330 or B767?

My favorite single-aisle is the A319/A320 - the extra inch of seat width in Economy makes all the difference. The LCD IFE is a bonus.

For dual-aisle, 777 and 767 all the way (again, that extra inch in Economy).

My only experience on Airbus dual-aisles were two Air France A300s in 1985. The first was the shuttle between Heathrow and DeGaulle, so that was cramped to all heck. I did fly First from Athens to DeGaulle and that was amazing.

Still, from what I have seen, I'd take the 777 over the A340.

My opinions:

B747 is in a class by itself and is the best plane flying today.

A340 is better than the B777 (4 engines, 2 across in Biz, etc.)

A330 is better than B767 (Just more comfy and better all around)

A300 is better than B757 (not sure if they are same class because A330 is twin isle)

A320/319 is better than B737 (more room!!)

Basically I think that Airbus has really kicked Boeing's butt recently and the order sheet is testament to this fact. The only thing I don't like about Airbus aircraft is the whine the engines make when they begin the takeoff roll.

If it ain't Boeing, I ain't goin.

Agreed

A340 is better than the B777 (4 engines, 2 across in Biz, etc.)

Not even close.... B777s two engines provide more power then all four of the engines on 342/343, and only slightly less then the four on the 345/346. And the two engines are two less engines for something to go wrong with. and the 2 across is a matter of airline configuration, not the manufacture of the plane.

I personally would much rather the B757 then athe A300

A320/319 is better than B737 (more room!!)
Toss up .. but I do kinda like the A318/9/20/21 family myself. Prefer them over a 73, but not over a 75

156 to 38 on the year .. can't argue with that

The only thing I don't like about Airbus aircraft is the whine the engines make when they begin the takeoff roll.

Thats more of a function of the engine manufacturer .. can't blame that on Airbus.

The A340-600 is a much better aircraft than the 777---it can carry just as many passengers and way more cargo. From what I have been told, AA is not to happy with their 777's. The 2 across thing not really an airline configuration thing. The 777 has enough width to put in 2/5/2 seatting or 3/4/2. I have never seen an airline put in 2/4/2 in Y on a 777. The 330/340 series would be to cramped to put in anything more than a 2/4/2.

Personal comfort preferences:

The AF version of the A330 is my absolute favorite plane to fly for anything longer than 2 hours. Even the coach seats are moderately comfy for a x-atlantic flight to Paris. My other fav is no longer in service - the L-1011. Nothing like a J/F class trip on one of these. For a single aisle, I like the 2 side of an MD-88 if I have to ride in the cattle car, otherwise it's a 737-800 for F.

Personal engineering preferences:

Most any heavy designed by Airbus. I'm an engineering technology consultant that visits both companies ... and based on what I "haven't seen" while conductin business ... this really isn't a contest here. Sorry to say this, as I grew up in Seattle and the great Boeing empire. As for manufacturing paractices, I can't say as I never visit this segment of the companies.
