SARS Masks!!!

I was on ORD-SAN today (6/11) in 2D on a 757. The woman next to me was wearing a SARS mask. I couldn't help but laugh to my self. Anyone else seen this on domestic flights?

Instead of laughing, had you thought of thanking the wearer for protecting you? A face mask is mainly to capture the germs when the wearer coughs or sneezes, and secondarily, to protect the wearer from others. If the mask is porous or if the eyes are not protected, then the wearer is as much at risk as from not wearing a mask.

You mean just one of these surgical masks?

People were them out of different reasons, SARS is one of them. I know someone with a heart problem who has to wear them when he is in crowded places, I also know someone with an asthma-like illness who wears them regularly. Last but not least, as mentioned before, if you have a virus or bacterial infection it is just a sign of thoughtfullness to protect the others from you.
