Tamperproof tape, where to find in a physical store?
I absolutely refuse to be an idiot and check in my luggage completely unsecured. I hope that this is just an interim solution and that there's something better in the works. (It took the UK 8 years to implement 100% tiered checked baggage screening.)
So, I'll live through it for now by buying tamperproof tape, where the words "void" remain on your luggage if removed. I'm still fond of my hard-side luggage. Hence, twist-ties won't work. Hence, should a TSA inspector want to be invasive and look into my bag behind my back, my tape is just cut, and it'll be replaced with some TSA tamperproof sticker. Should some thief break into my luggage, it'll be evident, and I can file a claim against the airline. So, does anyone know where I can get one from a real store, i.e. OfficeMax, Staples, Home Depot??? Thanks. - Pat |
I use cheap duct tape. It is easy to see if it has been fiddled with. My attitude these days is that I check nothing I can't live without/nothing of value. It's the life we lead now.

Why not just order it online? You will get it for way less money, and it will be at your house in a few days. Just do a google search on tamper evident tape and you will find tons of it.
What if the TSA opens the bag, then seals it, then a thief breaks in and puts more seals on it? |
This is on the assumption that the thief doesn't have the official TSA "tamperproof" stickers.
So I decided to follow the replier above and search the web. Well, I found one online store that's not so pricey and also offers expedited delivery. I was afraid everything would be shipped via USPS and wouldn't make it before my flight. www.securityseals.com Spent $50 worth on tamper evident tape (my favorite) and plastic security padlocks -- similar to the ones that are used to secure alcohol and duty-free carts until after take-off. Used 3-day delivery service. Not bad for (some) peace of mind. - Pat [This message has been edited by Wiirachay (edited 05-08-2003).] |
How about if we are just able to lock our luggage and the onus be on the TSA to come up with equipment that can properly scan/x-ray the bags without breaking them open out of sight of the owner?

I like the stuff the airlines use to tape up flakey bags. I just ask for it at the checkin counter, and tape up the bag. Usually, the gate person gives me the balance of the roll.
