Austrian Train Reservation
 

I am looking to buy train tickets from Vienna to Salzburg and back to Vienna (all journey takes place on the same day, day trip). I found an Austrian website, but all the booking processes are in German, and I dont speak it.
Does anyone know of a place where I can get prices, schedules, and be able to find an option for tickets for senior citizens and youth fares? www.eurorail.com does not seem to have options for discounted tickets, just for adult fares of children fares.
Also, is there much difference to which train or class of service I book on that route? Thank you.

Thanks Tim, i can find the timetable (which is extremely helpful), but I cant price any selections as these are for Austrian railroads, not for German. Thanks though!

reservations on such 'heavy rail traffic' routes are not necessary in Europe - except sleeper cars.

True, but I would really like to get the idea for the prices...and the difference in FC and 2nd class, and actually get that reservation. I found that its always good to have your seat reserved in advance no matter what

raileurope actually charges extra for its services (I have delat with them before), and while they are helpful, I know that they are not offering the lowest pricest on the tickets. Thanks though!

instead of paying for first class, I mostly would buy a second class ticket and spend the money 'spared' in the dining car (open for both classes).

I do the same thing! The only notable exception are Italian and Eastern European trains, it does pay to get a first class seat on these as 2nd class may get crowded.

I am not very familiar with the Austrian railroads system, but I took a quick look at their online res system and found out that the full fare oneway Wien-Salzburg is 29 euro in 1st and 18.30 euro in 2nd class. Persons under 26 can get youth discounts, but I guess a special card from the Austrian Railroads is required for it -- maybe it is possible to get it at the station.

I agree with Rudi that there is no need to book a seat in advance for this kind of heavy traffic route. Just buy the ticket at the station when you get to Wien. Also I see no point in paying for first class on Western European trains.
