Seattle - Lodging
 

Planning weekend trip to Seattle - 1st time there. Am considering staying at the "Inn at the Market". Is it a good choice? Other suggestions?

Inn at the Market is verrrry nice, excellent location (right next to pike street market) and just about the best place to stay in Seattle.

Stayed at the Edgewater last year and loved it. Little out of the way of downtown but right on the waterfront (The Beatles stayed there once).

Large rooms, huge bed and plenty of amenities.

Good rates on Expedia.

It is a great hotel, I believe it is featured in United Airlines' 3 Perfect Days: Seattle (check the hemispheres magazine web site). One word of caution, some of the streets around it may feel intimidating at night. The most luxurious hotel in town is supposedly the Four Seasons Olympic, and you will pay a premium to stay there most likely, the Sorrento Hotel (sp?) is also nice, but slightly further from downtown proper.

While you're in Seattle be sure to dine at the wonderful Wild Ginger restaurant, the best mix of Asian cuisines in the world. (Well, the western world -- I've never actually been to Asia!) Ask the waiter if they will prepare you the Monk's curry, an item that used to be on the menu years ago. Mmmmm, Monk's curry...

Inn at the Market has a great location. Never stayed there but the other posts indicate it is very nice. Let us know.

I stayed at the Sorrento about 3 years ago, before moving here and was not that impressed.

Other restaurant suggestions: Maximillien in Pike Place Market (just to the left of the Fish Throwers) for lunch - beautiful view of Elliot Bay and the Olympic Mountains (IF the weather cooperates); Andaluca, Assagio, 727 (pricey, but very good), Waterfront (some say the best seafood in town - a bit pricey but also great view), Matt's in the Market, Brasserie Margaux, Earth and Ocean (very hip -some do not like it but we do). Will think of others.

On a nice clear day (yes, we have them) go to Kerry Park (north of downtown and Belltown on Queen Anne). You will have a spectacular view of downtown, Elliot Bay and Mt Ranier. If you are here at full moon, go near sunset and watch the moon rise over the city - expect to compete with many photographers.

Inn at the Market is certainly ideal for a downtown Seattle stay. Others mentioned more choices, but I don't think I saw the Alexis -also downtown and close to the good food. My son lives in the suburbs but long ago we stayed at the Sorrento. It's very nice, too, but a big uphill climb to return from downtown.

The former city attorney and candidate for mayor was a pretty good enforcer on anti-panhandler policies. Alas, the citizens felt it was "mean" or some such rot and things have started to get worse again, as of late.

Brand new Waterfront Marriott opens today, also a good location.

Saw them build that one last year, that is indeed a nice location.
