What is "protocol" on finding a GREAT fare?
Last Sat. I got a fare of $16 RT, NYC to LGW.
I partially posted in "Online Travel Booking & Bidding". I now learn from other FT er's that these are mistakes that happen with Expedia. I can think of a few actions: *Buy it *Post in "FT" *Call airline or Expedia to confirm *Call friends & relatives Is there a general concensus of opinion? |
Frankly, I never assume that uniquely good fares are mistakes.
There are often some outstanding fares that are run as promos - sometimes to cut a competitor's throat, and other times just because business is really light on a route. Maybe a route is being introduced, or trying to be saved... or maybe an airline is even looking for some good cheap PR. Remember the 9/11 $1 fares? Those were no mistake. The media surrounding them was worth fare more than the lost fares. So don't ever just assume or 'know' that you're found an error. When you find a uniquely good deal -- and here I mean fares like what you cite, like the $150 MX business fare from the US to several Mexican destinations, the $55 DEN-FRA fare, the $29 Paris fares, etc. -- I recommend that you:

Sorry Nindobe!
The fare disappeared that day or the next (4/6,4/7). As per your request, I used Expedia and I entered NYC > LGW, for early June '03 and late June' 03 return. I got LGA>DTW>LGW & return the same routing. Total for 2 was $249.52. $16 fare each and the rest tax & booking fee. In the future, I will wait for confirm and then post. |
