Windows running in Boeing 777-300ER cockpit

Browsing on airliners.net tonight, I came across this incredible picture of Windows running on a TFT LCD in the cockpit of the first Boeing 777-300ER. Judging by the arrangement of the cables, the use of a velcro loop, and the occulsion of analog instrumentation, the system is just in there (hopefully!) for prototyping, test and diagnostics use, but it's still a unique photograph that gives a sense of how prevalent commodity hardware and software is becoming, even in specialized settings. Look for the LCD in the bottom left hand section of the instrument panel --

The bright orange colour of the cables should set your mind at rest: it's flight test equipment for sure.

It better be; you can't restart the a/c at 35,000 feet, regardless what the computer tells you!!!

Glad to see that isn't on one of the real LCDs... I'd hate to think about the Microsoft Windows Blue Screen of Death (TM) blanketing the cockpit during, say, a zero-visibility landing

It's for the crew to access FlyerTalk during the cruise.

Man, these guys think of everything - looks like they even put a spare shoelace on the control yoke
