Hat Trick Bump ?
While doing ROC-DTW-MSP-COS as outbound on NW last friday, I managed to get bumped twice: DTW-MSP and then MSP-COS.
ROC-DTW is never full. Even F is mostly half empty. Has anyone ever managed to get bumped for three segments either outbound or return ? Any yes, I took the 2x$300 TCV's vs the free trip, thanks to learning this on FlyerTalk. |

Rochesterians,
Have either of you eaten at the new Bennigan's restaurant in the Sheraton Four Points Hotel on Main Street? I'm going to Rochester next week and I need to make a reservation for dinner. Is it any good? |
is bennigan's in a hotel now? wow!

I was flying IAH-ATL-MCO on DL in December, and came within a hair of a hat trick. Got bumped twice on the ATL-MCO segment ($400 + $200) and then volunteered for the a third bump (at $400). It turned out they did not need any volunteers on the 3rd segment. I was close!

Not a hat trick but better?
My mom volunteered to be bumped on xmas day from ord-mco. They processed her free ticket voucher and then at the last minute told her to get on the ORIGINAL flight...she boarded AND was seated in First Class. So she got upgraded on her original flight AND received free ticket... she said the agent told her to keep the free ticket voucher and hurry onto the plane... mom gladly accepted!! Got bumped three times SEA-EWR this past July. Almost got bumped off the fourth flight, too, but there was a no-show...drat!
The third time, the gate agent said "You again?" and the fourth time, he just smiled and held his hand out for my boarding pass. |
Never a hat-trick, but I've pulled many double-bumps over the years.
My favorite bump story similar to Live4Miles' mom: we were flying DEN-SFO in 2000 on an oversold A320. We were seated in bad coach seats in the back when they asked for volunteers. Since people were already seated, nobody moved, but we jumped up to take the $200 - just to get out of our awful seats. We walked off the jetbridge, the agent hurried us along with vouchers and boarding passes on a flight leaving 20 minutes after our scheduled one. We didn't pay much attention to the seat assignments until we walked onto the next flight: it was a 747 and we were upstairs in business class! http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...um/biggrin.gif |
Not quite a hat-tick, but I did pull a string of non-stop bumps from ORD-HPN back in August and September.
First American was oversold. [However, wanting to get home early I switch to a Contintal to Midway] Then I had a string of Uniteds that were oversold both going there and back. 4 in a row were bumpable. One I was bumped to the American flight which ended up getting to O'hare earlier. |

My girlfriend flew SFO-ORD on Xmas eve and was offered a bump. She declined, since we wanted to avoid the risk of missing a connecting flight. Xmas morning from ORD-MIA we were again offered a bump, but declined since we wanted to spend more time in Miami before continuing onward. When we checked in for our flight from MIA to SCL, it turned out to be delayed for 10 HOURS.
So didn't get any bumps at all, despite the fact that they were offered and wouldn't have hindered our arrival at our final destination at all. Guess that's the anti-hat trick bump. cnk |
Managed a good double just over a year ago....
July 2001 out of SFO for LHR, the flight was oversold (we were booked in coach) and they were looking for volunteers to go overnight to NYC & on to London during the day. Rejected that idea but then managed to talk the gate agent into C class on SFO-LHR next morning, night in a hotel, dinner and $400 travel vouchers each. Redeemed the vouchers for a trip to New England in Dec 2001. Return flight BOS-LHR was on Jan 1st 2002, again in coach. I asked, but the flight was full, not overbooked... Got to the gate, they called our names & switched the boarding passes for Business Class :-) Service was top notch (although it always seems better when you don't pay for it)! |
