where are those plastic locking ties sold?
 

I want to start carrying some of those plastic strips TSA is recommending for locking. Where are they sold?

Hardware stores.
They are generally used for tying together a group of electrical wires or some such thing.

I saw them at Brookstone next to the other kinds of luggage locks.

Wire ties are available just about anywhere, hardware, home depot, etc. Zillions of sizes, colors, etc. Ask the computer guy at the office, or the maintenance guy for a handful, I know I always have zillions around.

Magellans.com and places like tamper.com also offer locking one use tags to see if your bag was tampered with.

DH has been using tie-wraps for years to lock our luggage. BUT, keep in mind that you're going to need a sharp object to cut it open.

Since you can't carry those items on board anymore, it makes getting your suitcase open, uh, interesting. Needless to say, our suitcases haven't been tie-wrapped since.

You can buy them anywhere. DH is in telecom so he brings them home by the boatload. Everything in our house that needs to be tied up gets tie-wrapped - even if it doesn't have to be secure http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif.

Home Depot has them.

A couple of years ago, I got a lifetime supply of assorted sizes at Costco. The cost was less than that for 10 at a variety store.

Home Depot etc. Colors cost more than white. I read on FT that you can open them with a ball point pen (typical hotel issue). Works if you don't crank them down too tight. They are cheap!

Remember to pack some for return trip.

Also, I'm planning to use duct tape.

It's actually fairly funny, everybody is going nuts trying to figure out how to open them all over the internet. Scissors with round points are allowed in carry ons now, as are nail clippers. I have yet to see a wire tie that would be used on a suitcase you couldn't twist open with a pen or pencil.

I was in 4 malls yesterday (Uggh) trying to finish my shopping and I saw them in the following stores.
1. Brookstone
2. Sears
3. As Seen On TV
4. Discovery Store

You can pack a knife in an outside pocket of luggage and then cut ties with that...they make small folding knifes that are real sharp...

Are you talking about plastic strips that go around the baggage; >= 50 inch long? I know about the 24 inch (more or less) plastic strips that go around cables etc. but have never seen any longer ones.
Please help - Mrs. USAFAN gets ballistic, when I tell her that she can NOT lock her baggage. We are very often connecting through MIA, and we still remember the TV report showing luggage handlers in MIA stealing goods.
