I, for one, am not even going to London. I have connecting flights (on BA) and any work stoppage at LHR will ruin my long weekend plans. Any news updates are vital for my planning.

Latest airport strike BBC story (Wed 20th) they were in talks trying to avoid airport staff strikes. Watch this space.
STOP PRESS: Non-airport Fire Strike set to start 09:00 Friday 22nd Nov. If last week is anything to go by, this will either knock out or severely disrupt Piccadiily Line tube from LHR into London.

Bump up...as of 8am GMT the talks have failed and now starts the winter of our discontent here in the UK.

If you're over here folks, do be careful. Deep tube startions will be closed. You;ll probably find tubes/trains starting to be cancelled as drivers refuse to take trains "due to safety resons." And, you may not be able to get some good old British fried food in some establishments "due to insurance reasons" (we couldn’t get any chips in my company’s staff canteen during the last strike!)

Britain apologises in advance for any inconvenience caused http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/frown.gif

That's the non-airport fire strike, isn't it?

yes

The others are "still talking".....according to the BAA website

The tube seems to be running much more smoothly during this fire strike. There are still the 20 or so station closures, the Bakerloo Line has no service between Waterloo Station and Elephant & Castle Station in both directions and there's a few delays on the Victoria Line.

It looks like you can get in from LHR on the Piccadilly Line at the moment. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

The Piccadilly Line usually suffers worst from this (they did today too). Knightsbridge was closed last time due to drivers walking out.

The Arnos Grove Depot is incredibly Militant.

Alex

23 November update is at http://www.baa.co.uk/main/general/ba...2002_page.html .

The latest position appears to be as follows:-

Talks between the TGWU, Amicus and BAA which have been taking place since Wednesday 20 November are still ongoing and are at a critical stage. BAA will continue to refine the contingency plans and will be able to confirm more on Monday. (emphases added)

Looks like the strike threat is over--at least for the first four threatened strikes:

Also, note that the next (regular) firefighters' strike due to start Wednesday has been cancelled... looks like things might be returning to normal...

Bill Morris, general secretary of the TGWU, was meeting officials from the British Airports Authority today to try to avert strikes at the airports – Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton.
He said: “The vote to reject the offer reflects the determination of our members to secure just reward for the added responsibilities they have had since September 11.”
Mr Morris said the company had responded to his request for an immediate resumption of talks, but he added: “Should these talks prove to be unsuccessful, the statutory seven days’ notice will be given for industrial action.”

BBC: strikes still possible 15/12, 23/12, 2/1

I don't understand how the possible strike on 15th December fits with the quote from Bill Morris on PA about 7 days' statutory notice, unless it's considered that they've already given notice when the strikes were first threatened?

ajamieson Dec 10, 2002 9:16 am

Quite. There can be NO strike on the 15th.

It seems both sides are hopeful that the talks this afternoon might provide the ultimate solution to this.

BAA has a section on its website about the action.

Will try and keep you posted about the talks.
