Bumping rules

I like volunteering my seat if I have the time. I know, I should take the vouchers, but I usually take the free RT's and maybe give them to my kids, where I wouldn't get miles anyhow.

I've always bumped in Coach.

1. Do they accept volunteers from First/Biz?
2. If so, do you get a free RT same class?
3. Do they accept volunteers travelling on an award ticket?
4. If you're on a First/Biz award ticket, and they let you volunteer, do you get the same class free RT?

Obviously, my fantasy is to get bumped with my wife on a transatlantic award, and return home with a fist full of free First Class RTs. Am I only dreaming or are such things possible?

1) Sure. Usually there's a waitlist for biz or first that would open up a coach seat.

2) Probably not.

3) Sure.

4) Probably even less likely than #3.

It really depends on the airline. I fly AA the most, and they only give out the dollar-denominated vouchers (which I happen to love).

I've received the sytemwide roundtrip voucher from AS before, though I've heard they give out the dollar kind sometimes, too.

If you post which airlines you will be flying, people here could probably provide more specific answers as to their bumping policies.

I have a question about what type of R/T voucher does a pax get when they volunteer for a bump on an international trip:

A) Coach ticket -- do you get an international R/T coach voucher?

If you are in Europe when you are bumped is it good Europe/USA?

B) Business Class/First Class Ticket -- do you get an equivilent Business Class/First Class R/T voucher?

Anyone get a voucher only good in the continental 48 states for volunteering to give up their seat in Europe or Asia?

I volunteered a couple of years ago. Canada Air on a return leg from LHR. They would have given me a SW RT (coach), goo either way. Unfortunately, they didn't need us all. I was flying on a $350 ticket, don't know the class.

Yes, they will take any volunteer from any class (though it's rare that first is overbooked so they probably won't need them if they have enough coach ones)

Your voucher will be for coach even if you came from First

They will accept you if you have an award or another free ticket, I did it many times

No, you will get a coach ticket.
