It really depends on how comfortable you feel driving in general. I have done solo missions many times 16 hours at a time. Take it slow, get a cheap motel for the night if you feel tired. If you have time, make a trip out of it.

Alternatives:
You might look into Drive Away programs if you don't mind someone else driving your car. Basically you turn in your car and someone else drives it. Make sure they are insured of course. Shipping a car is VERY expensive.

Oops sorry, pynchonesque
beat me to it!

Get a copy of Highway 50: Ain't That America , by Jim Lilliefors. Have it with you and drive his route backwards.

I say take the drive. I drove from Northern VA to San Fran in 4 days, stopping at cheap hiltons each night for the 50K promo, roads almost empty, cruise control 19mph above the limit, watching the world go past.

Think of it as an adventure, you will get to see the US at ground level instead of looking down at clouds from 30K ft http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif
