AA ticketed me the wrong dates for travel.....what can I do???

I called AA and the rep told me what was available for a certain date. I had told her that I wanted to travel the day before Thanksgiving and return that Sunday. She, for some reason told me that the dates of travel would be Nov. 20 - Nov. 24. Obviously these dates are not Thanksgiving weekend but it's the week before. I had no idea because I didn't have a calendar in front of me (ultimately, it's my fault for not knowing the dates). Well, after the ticket was booked I called their customer service office, I was told that if I wanted to change my flight, I would have to pay the difference in fare ($200) plus the $100 change fee. What the hell!!!????? I argued but the supervisor (Pam) didn't want to help me out...

What can I do??? I already booked another flight through expedia.com for the correct dates. You think I can dispute this charge with my credit card company (MBNA-mastercard)???

This is a difficult problem as they (especially AA) are likely to be as stubborn as Iraq in this matter.

Alaska made a similar error about 5 years ago and corrected it after much internal discussion (or at least wait on my part).

Your options may include a trip to nowhere, writing to customer service and asking for a voucher (which may be more easily granted than a refund - show them evidence of your expedia ticket).

This shows that you have to protect yourself with airlines. Get out your own calender. Bring your own food and even a little bit of water. Don't take the last flight. It's almost a like preparing for a battle before you fly now.

I hate to say it, but is they went over the dates before the purchase, I don't think you have much choice in the matter. If you agreed to the dates she was giving you, even if they were not the dates you wanted, then the ticket is a valid one.

With so many of the customer service units now being farmed out to countries with different holidays then ours, it's so important we don't refer to dates by anything other then the calendar date.

oh ****....i think i'll write a letter to both AA and my credit card company...hopefully that expedia ticket will do something..

after more complaining, i finally received a credit voucher towards a future flight without having to cough up the $100 change fee...i think that expedia ticket helped me big time...thanks guys!!

its late advice now, but i would always dispute the charge with the credit card company also.

i actually tried but the CC company said that since i had agreed to the "dates" there was nothing they could do...

There's an AA forum on this board under "FT Travel" -- post there!
