Prague- after the flood (hotels)
Thanks to those who responded to my train query. Has anyone stayed in Prague after the flood? If so, I'm looking for post-flood hotel recommendations. Thanks! |
The Radisson SAS Alcron hotel in Prague is up a hill from Wenceslas square and was never even threatened by the floods - I read somewhere they housed some of the Four Seasons' guests during the worst of it. I've stayed at the hotel (before flood) and it is very nice. Art Deco with nicely renovated rooms. Very much a five star hotel.

Very applicable to me right now. Partner and I travel to Prague in mid-september and were booked into the Four Seasons. Received a call from AMEX saying the Four Seasons was closed until the end of September. They then tried the Intercontinental, which it turns out is also closed because of flooding. We are therefore now booked into the Alcron (which AMEX called directly and confirmed that they were on a hill!).

Does anyone know whether the Prague Hilton was affected by the flood?
|
The Hilton, InterContinental and Four Seasons are all closed while the basements are de-flooded.
My wife and I were there last weekend. Most of the city is OK. Marriott and Renaissance and many other hotels were open. The metro (subway) in the centre will be closed for many months. The bombproof doors built by the communists weren't closed in time! Charles Bridge has reopened. Chaos on Monday morning 8/26. The airport was closed by a bomb scare. Our flight was delayed and we missed our connecting flight at Amsterdam. Plus ca change ... |

Made it back- stayed at the Renaissance, which was fine. You can tell that there was a flood as you approach the river- lots of utility work/police etc. Some neighborhoods were still without power- there was one city neighborhood that was hit hardest, and the outlying areas by the river, too. I didn't have time to see much, but I read this in the Prague Post- www.praguepost.cz
Edit- the hard hit neighborhood is Karlin, Prague 8 "Poor Karlin Weeks after floods, full picture of damage emerges; recovery of hardest-hit area months away " http://www.praguepost.com/P02/2002/20904/news1.php There are other post-flood updates on the home page.
