There are a number of small boutique hotels that are very nice, Art-Deco type hotels. You may want to check out Miami.com as they list many of them.

The top 'mainline' type hotels on SoBe are:
The Loews, Ritz Carlton South Beach and the Marriott is also quite nice. The Fountainbleu has been renovated as is very nice, although it not in the middle of South Beach.

Hope this helps.

try the Hotel Clevelander in the heart of SoBe!

Avoid the Clevelander. It is a marginal, old hotel. The only thing going for it is that it is waterfront, being across the street from the beach. It has a popular but very casual bar--this is a spill beer on your shoes kind of bar. Rooms were old with dated furniture and no carpet. My window shade would not close, and there was a bright light outside my window. Stayed there 2 nights--mgmt never fixed it, never moved me to a different room, or gave me credit on teh bill.

Also avoid the Fountainbleu. Its really not in South Beach--its up around 44th Street. Its an old property and not fully renovated. Numerous complaints in the Hilton Forum.

Ultra high end is the Delano. If you go for the boutique hotels, look for the ones a block off the beach. These are generally in better condition.

I second the Delano for boutique. It is niceset hotel on south Beach IMHO. Otherwise, for chains, Lowes is brand new and nice. The Marriott is ok as is the Hilton Grand Vacations Club. But if $ is not too much of an issue, Delano hands down!

How about between the Tides, Ritz and Loews. These people are going for the first time and want to have a nice time. I would hate to suggest something crappy to them.

They will be looking for nice food, music, shopping

Thanks

I agree with past statements:

Clevelander has a nice bar, but the rooms really svck.

IMHO the best hotel in SoBe is the Delano.

Not Fountainbleu and not Clevelander!!!
If money is not an issue, DELANO!

I prefer Loews and Delano. A Ritz-Carlton is under construction.

The Delano is a great place. Also consider The Shore Club...new boutique with a branch of Nobu.

I like the loews. The Delano is trying a bit too hard. The pool area is nicer at the Loews.

I vote for the Delano and the Tides. Both are great. The Tides is closer to the restaurants/shops on Ocean Drive. The Delano has a great scene, good restaurant, and great spa. Try the milk and honey massage.
