Of course, this was just over six years ago, so perhaps things have changed substantially. Has anyone stayed there recently?

Bonjour, Michael.

6 years ago was quite different. At that time the hotel was new, and the Gran Bahia Principe chain only 4 years old. This meaning the staff were likely un-familiar with the standards set (which explains the food sector). Are you sure you stayed at AKUMAL and not TULUM? Alcoholic drinks are included in the price.

I stayed there 1/2 a year ago, and found it completely enjoyable. If you'd like a review, feel free to PM me.

For US "The Boulders" Cave Creek AZ which is a waldorf astoria resort. Wow.. just gorgeous.. incredible. You feel like the only person there. Beautiful, with concierge-type service that answers as if you're appointed one just for you (are they..?) tennis court, pool, whatever you want they have it and in gorgeous surroundings.

Bumping threads which are 7-12 years old is unproductive. If one wishes to start a new thread on "Extraordinary Hotels" please do so.
This thread is now officially retired.
