carry-on rules
is it permissable to carry a Zippo lighter on-board in a carry-on or in your pocket? Thanks.

Good question. On one flight, I was allowed to carry onboard 1 matchbook, 2 other matchbooks in my carry-on were confiscated. On another occasion, my clear disposable lighter was confiscated. Colored disposables were okay. This was all before the notorious shoebomber incident. Never tried a Zippo.

The only time I have seen them make a deal about it was in Dayton in May, they were making people squeeze all the fluid into a garbage can before they let them through. Didn't quite understand the logic of filling a garbage can in an airport with paper towels filled with lighter fluid, but it's airport security we are talking about here.

Lighter fluid soaked into paper towels in a garbage can (or puddled all by itself in an open container) indoors will gradually evaporate into poisonous fumes.

True, but I am surprised these bozos didn't make the Pax DRINK the contents of their lighters to see if they were poisonous or not!
