Getting from NRT to BKK
Do you have advice for deals on flights going from Narita to Bangkok or can you lead me in the right direction for ticket agents who offer better rates. A friend and I are flying in to Japan and will then be heading to Thailand but I am finding flights between the two in the $1000rt range...any suggestions?

This would be the time to cash in on your miles, if you have enough. UA and NW have Y/C/F awards for 20/30/40K (F on UA only), which are excellent values.
If not, once in Japan, you could go to one of the discount travel agents (they have ads in English language newspapers such as the Daily Yomiuri, Japan Times, or in the free Tokyo Classifieds), which should have GIT tickets for at most half of the figure you quoted. GIT tickets are group tickets which must be prepaid (usually by cash), picked up at the airport, and do not yield full miles on many Asian carriers; they tend to be cheapest on UA and NW anyway. |
for biz class or economy?
I went during High season (dec/jan) and my fare in economy was only $350 roundtrip. |
Your best travel bargain would be to get a Cathay-Pacific All Asia pass.
http://www.cathay-usa.com/offers/aap20012002.asp Fly N. America (New York, LA or SF) to Hong Kong and 21 consecutive days of travel to any of 16 Asian cities, including Tokyo and Bangkok for US$999. You can increase the length of the pass to 30 days for an extra US$100. |
It would be for travel in economy class. The Cathay Pacific all Asia pass is a good deal, however we are getting to NRT by way of United on buddy passes, so we already have the travel to and from Japan taken care of.
Thanks all for your suggestions. |
Japan can be a dreadfully expensive market. Flying to BKK on the buddy pass and then flying to NRT may be a better idea.

April prices excluding 'taxes' (2,050 yen for NRT), travel agency prices, most probably, no date changes allowed, 10 days maximum for return
Economy:
UA does not seem to have posted their prices yet. It is taking them a bit longer than previous years. I agree with monahos. Award tickets are good values. NRT-SIN is a lot cheaper, though. NW: 34,800JPY. [This message has been edited by Chiangi (edited 03-17-2002).] |
