The biggest problem with Priceline for a Paris hotel is that Priceline lumps all of the arrondissments that don't touch the outer edge of the city together, so you really have no clue what part of the city you'd be staying in. It's amazingly dumb: obviously no one at Priceline has a clue about Paris, and no one who has a clue about Paris would use Priceline for a hotel there, unless price is an absolutely overwhelming factor.

A much better idea in my opinion is one of the discount hotel sites online. The Hotel Reservation Service (HRS) is a good choice for Paris and other European cities: decent prices, and you choose exactly where you'll stay.

There's only a couple of hotels (Libertel chain) that successful bids have been reported on.
