Pricing for a multi-city US holiday?
I was wondering if I could get some help on how to best accomplish my plans below.
I have a free ticket from London to the US (either Washington, New York or Chicago which can be open-jawed). Got me thinking that I would like to spend a day in each of the above cities (will do a walking tour or bus tour - have been to New York before but no-where else in the US). Given that one-way flights are expensive, what are my options? If I fly into Chicago is an airpass that would allow me to fly from Chicago to Washington to New York (where I would fly out of)? I am flexible as to the time of year that I fly (is there an off-season for domestic US travel?), but I would leave London on a Thursday night, and fly out of the states on a Monday night. With thanks in advance, WG |
Off-season in the US domestically means any day other than a few days before and after a major holiday (Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two big ones). Even then, with advance purchase and Saturday night stay, it's not that expensive. The weather should be your deciding factor -- do you like freezing cold weather or boiling hot weather? http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif I vote for Autumn being the best season.
I would suggest flying to ORD on the free ticket, and fly an open jaw ORD-DCA and LGA-ORD. JFK is lacking in domestic service, and IAD is nowhere near Washington, DC (compared to DCA). Visit D.C. on Friday, take Amtrak to New York Saturday morning, visit New York on Saturday, and fly to Chicago Saturday night or Sunday morning and visit Chicago on Sunday. Then back home on Monday. |
check w/airline re "visit usa" fares on a partner air line . i assume you have a points ticket on a non us airline.

Many thanks to everyone for their help! I shall now settle back and do some planning.
