Ozark Air Lines
Hi, It's been a while since I've had the freedom to visit FT. As always I'm back to benefit from your collective wisdom.
I'm in the process of planning college visits with my oldest son (yes that is a mother's heart screaming from panic and jumping for joy you're hearing). I've found a flight on Ozark Air Lines. Normally I wouldn't bother, but the times work well for us. We have to fly to ABQ and then drive down to Roswell. Has anyone flown Ozark? Are they still in partnership with anyone. I read that they had merged with TWA. Are they now aligned with AA? Any info would be appreciated. |

Ozark Air Lines signs agreement with American Airlines in Dallas Ozark Air Lines of Columbia has signed an inter-line agreement with American Airlines that will provide Mid-Missouri air travelers with seamless connections to cities served by American through American's Dallas-Fort Worth hub at the DWF airport. Travel on the new Ozark Dallas connection is expected to begin in February, according to John Ellis, Ozark Air Lines president. "The agreement will make Ozark Air Lines the Mid-Missouri connection for American Airlines. It offers passengers of both airlines new time saving opportunities for business and personal air travel," Ellis said. http://www.newstribune.com/stories/0...0108000011.asp http://www.iidbs.com/ozark/newoz.htm http://www.inlink.com/~dougm/ozark.htm I've never flown them! Hope this helps! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by doc (edited 07-02-2001).] |
The original Ozark merged with TWA in the early 1980s. The new Ozark is an unrelated company using the name to fly tiny Fairchild jets around the heartland...the last I heard was that they were bought out by some two-bit holding company and cancelled a bunch of routes. I haven't heard anything about them in a while and assumed they had gone out of business. If they have frequent flyer hookups with anybody I'd be very surprised.
To add to Doc's post -- I believe the agreement with AA was nixed after Ozark was bought out and the flights to DFW were dropped. [This message has been edited by robinhood (edited 07-02-2001).] |
Old Ozark Airlines was bought by TWA way back. A new Ozark Airlines with a hub in Columbia, MO (COU) has been in business for a couple years until earlier this year it was bought by the Great Plains Airlines out of Tulsa, OK (they needed jet aircraft and a jet operating certificate to get started). AFAIK, it is not "aligned" with any of the majors.

Yep! None taken. I tried to quickly (and poorly/wromgfully) explain why one might be confused regarding Ozark and AA as well as the old carriers merger.
"A quick overview of Ozark Air lines 1950 - 1986 Ozark started commerical service September 1950 (4 - DC3 aircraft) between St. Louis, Missouri USA (Park Airport) and Chicago, Illinois with enroute stops at Springfield, Decatur and Champaign Illinois. The airlines ceased operating under the name of Ozark Air Lines October 1986 when TWA bought the carrier and took over it routes and aircraft." From the link provided above! http://www.inlink.com/~dougm/ozark.htm Thanks for the current updated info! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Library Dragon,
You mentioned that you are flying to ABQ, so it appears that you have happened upon Great Plains Air. As correctly pointed out by Eugene, Great Plains found it easier to buy the operating certificate of Ozark Airlines, rather than start from scratch. Great Plains operates 3-4 Fairchild Dornier jet aircraft daily on the following route: BNA-TUL-OKC-ABQ and vv. Flights seem to be proving extremely popular, so you should book in advance. Service is in a 2-2 all economy configuration. If you want more info, you can check out their website at: http://www.greatplainsairlines.com (website has been down intermittently so try again later if the URL doesn't work). Also, you can call them at: 1-866-929-8646 |
Thanks for all the info. Much of what I found was confusing for all the reasons related here. The original Ozark Airlines seems to have a cult following with a few websites dedicated to memorabilia.
I also appreciate the tip of booking early. The price is the lowest I've found and the times are right. I guess ff miles were too much to hope for. |
The original Ozark Airlines was called Krazo (Ozark spelled backwards) Airlines by its frequent flyers.

When I was little, living in Quincy, IL, I remember riding on the "ox cart" to St. Louis.
