Tokyo Hotels
Traveling to Tokyo for pleasure at end of June for a few days. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive ($100 or so) nice hotel? What is the best location to stay in? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I stayed at the Shinjuku Prince Hotel, about 5 minute walk from Shinjuku station. Convenient location and decent quality hotel with small rooms (which are the norm for that price in Tokyo). I booked it through the web site below for $112 including tax, service charge, and buffet breakfast. Proximity to the station meant easy access to/from the airport and subway around Tokyo. Plenty of restaurants (full service and fast food) and shopping in the area.

Welcome to Flyertalk. You might search out other threads that are similar to your post. Tokyo is a city of many different neighborhoods, so where many people stay depends upon their interests, how long they are staying, etc. Many FTers seem to stay in the Shinjuku area, particularly on the west side. In terms of your $100 budget, as the previous post suggests, the Prince hotels chain could get you close (typically a little over). The next rung down are the so-called business hotels running from JPY7000-10000. They are basic hotels with clean but small rooms with tiny bath. There are always a knot of them around each train station. If you want to stay Japanese style, there are some reasonable ryokan (japanese style inn where you sleep on futon mattress on top of tatami mats) available if you look at the Japan National Tourist Association website.

Found a place in Tokyo, the Ryokan Shigetsu (http://www.roy.hi-ho.ne.jp/shigetsu/). The room is Japanese style with bath in the heart of Asukusa. The cost for 2 people 15,000 yen (about $125.00). Looks really nice.
I also saw another place the Ryokan Sawanoya (http://www.tctv.ne.jp/members/sawanoya/). It looked nice, but seemed a bit far out of town. Fodors and Frommers gave both very good reviews. Any other tips about Tokyo would be helpful to me. |
