FT Poll: Does Airport Security Verify Checked Luggage Tags?
Would like to conduct a non-scientific poll. I'm trying to find out your experiences with airport security checking your luggage tags when you exit the baggage area.
1. What percentage of time do you have your luggage tags verified to your "claim checks"? 2. Are there certain airports that always check? If so, which ones? 3. Are there airports that have historically checked tags, but have stopped in the past 12-24 months? Thanks for your help, KB. ------------------ Ken in Sacramento |
I have had my luggage claim tags checked 100% of the time at MIA.

Only in ATL... 100% of the time.

Maybe once or twice over the years in the US, and never overseas, but then again, I rarely check luggage http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

One time only, can't remember where or when.
Seldom check luggage these days, but have experienced no checking in SFO, SNA, SAN, SJC, EWR, BOS. |
at aep in buenos aires, i think 100%, same @ lga. never @ dfw. always @ departure [by me], ilook @ the tags & always check boarding passes, rest of tickets etc before leaving check in counter. the rate of success is very good, now that most places are on the computer. when it was manual, i remember having a long discussion about dca & iad. he insisted he was right & it almost went to "ground rage", finally got it changed & bags got to dca W/me. it's been a long time, but i remember people being checked @ dal consistently.

LGA is the only place that's checked me in recent years.

At LAX it seems to vary depending upon what terminal you are in. I have been checked at some terminals, but not at others. At some of the terminals, there aren't even people at the baggage claim exits.

I think Southwest is the only airline that checks luggage tags in every city it flies to, regardless if other airlines do.
Oops...will add to the survey... 1. Only when I have flown with Southwest 2. My friend says that Atlanta is pretty tight on checking luggage tags (he also said that Delta is going to stop paying for that soon) 3. Not to my knowledge -Lawrence [This message has been edited by pseudoswede (edited 05-23-2001).] |

Are there airports that have historically checked tags, but have stopped in the past 12-24 months? 1. 5% Verified (RNO), 95% Nothing (AHO, CDG, EWR, IAH, JNB, LGW, SFO, SNA) 2. Not sure. 3. Not sure. I always remove the tag as soon as I retrieve my luggage and then throw the tag away after I leave the baggage claim area. |
I have had it checked at ATL and LAS, but no where else in years. (and I have a sample size of one for each)

Always checked at LAS, never checked at LAX (international and UA terminals), never checked at JFK, EWR, ORD, SBA, or PIT.
|
Never had it at smaller airports (AUS, CHA, TYS, SJC, etc), medium sized airports (MEM, HOU, etc) and not recently at larger airports (IAH, EWR, ATL, etc)
