Hotel Restaurants
 

Here's a question for you all.... which hotel chains have the best restaurants? I've gotten stuck with lots of hotel dining experiences...not necessarily by choice...and it seems to me like Sheraton restaurants lack consistency and quality.

Based on my limited experience, I would say Marriott and Wyndham offer the best, and most consistent, dining experience.

The last three Sheratons I have dined at really didn't have their act together, and reminded me of the quality I would expect at Holiday Inn or Ramada.

Or is my sample size too small???

Of mid-range hotels, I find Le Meridien's cuisine is consistently the best (unless I can persuade my client to put me up at a Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton!)

I'm not certain one can corelate this.

The Starwood chain hotel restaurants in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Venice, Paris, London, and Wash. DC (at least 2) are among the best in the city.

Others are not that sharp. Those near airports that I have used do not impress.

The Four Points in Vancouver has a very nice restaurant. Too bad they dont staff it right.

Most of the hotel restaurants are overpriced. I would rather walk to drive offsite to get a better deal, and often times a better meal.

The Dining Rooms at the Ritz-Carltons are very good, but they're pretty pricey.

Another smaller chain with excellent restaurants is the Fairmont. Also, selective hotels, particularly in big cities or at resorts, often have restaurants that are better than the average for that chain. Some examples include the St Francis (Westin)and the Mark Hopkins (Intercontinental) in SF and the Phoenician (Starwood Luxury Collection) in Phoenix.

Besides R-C's and Four Seasons, Relais & Chateaux at the high end. Starwood's Luxury Collection often have very good restaurants (particularly Lespinasse at the St. Regis NY), also at the high end. One of my favorite retaurants (at the same end) is the Windsor Court Grill in New Orleans. Several steps down, Le Meridien restaurants are usually pretty good and Intercontinentals are generally decent.

I always have this idea of that hotel restaruants do not carry authentic food, for example all the hotel restaurants I have been to in China are just rip-offs, like many said here, it's pricy, and sometimes subpar.

I often seek out places to eat in hotels, but try to do a preview of the menu first. There are some very good restaurants in hotels with occasional bad ones. It is easier to get a decent meal in a hotel in a strange town, then many nearby restaurants.
Germany is one of my favorites for hotel meals. Like the SchwarzerBock Hotel in Wiesbadn has a great Lunch and Dinner special at VERY reasonalbe prices. I was not able to find a place nearby, that could compete with it.
