Half Naked at OAK

I flew from Oakland to LAX this afternoon, and then connected to Las Vegas, where I'm visiting with friends tonight. Along the way, though, I encountered a new airport experience at OAK.

I had just checked in and taken a seat in the waiting area next to the gate. I noticed a gentleman on his knees, going through his suitcase, betweeen the seating area and the windows. I just figured he was rearranging his luggage. Wrong!

He took his shirt off.
He took his t shirt off.
He sprayed himself with deodorant.
He put a new shirt on.

Now, the bathroom was within eyesight and there was plenty of time until departure.

To me this is unusual airport behavior. Has anyone seen something like this before?

See what happens when you don't have a club room/lounge/"secret" elite hideout?

Tom,

Proximity to Berkeley could be a contributing factor. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Did you make any comment to this guy? LOL

It might have been hard for many people to keep silent on an odd sight like that.

Maybe that's what they mean by the "Southwest Effect"!

It's very unusual behavior, and probably illegal. I thought aerosol deodorants were banned in most of California. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Argghh...

Reminds me of flying People Express several years ago from Newark to Houston. I had the pleasur of sharing my row with an extremely large man wearing overalls, but no shirt. He sat on the aisle....

The window seat was occupied by a woman who had brought along a gigantic sheet of plastic bubble packing. She spent the entire flight popping it.

17 years later, I still remember that flight.

Ya got that right. As Dave L. often says:(more or less tongue in cheek, but more true than I'd like to see) "we are nearing the end of civilization as we know it"

Goodness! Were there animals on the flight too?

Analise-

No, didn't make any comments. I just sat in utter amazement, thinking I must have been at the Greyhound depot rather than the Oakland Airport. Knowing that he might not react favorably, thought it in my best interest not to say anything.

Just another new airport experience, one of the benefits of flying United Shuttle.
