Special meals

What was the most appealing special meal that you ordered while traveling economy class?

Probably the best I have had was SEAFOOD breakfast on US AIRWAYS transcon SFO-PHL. I was pleasantly surprised with a Bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon.

Delta used to offer a seafood crepe as a special breakfast choice ... it is the only coach breakfast that I have ever liked.

In more than 30 years of business flying, I've never ordered a special meal.

I used to order special meals until I was upgraded to first class and found the special meal followed me into first class. (AA's rule).

Thanks to the kind FA that night I was able to still get a first class meal.

Hmmm... I always order a special meal (vegetarian) on all meal flights unless I'm booking at the last minute, and, *as far as I know*, it hasn't affected my ability to upgrade. I usually fly CO, NW, and UA. My upgrade rate over the last year has been at least 90 percent, and I have gotten a handful of operational upgrades. If I get upgraded at the last minute and they only have a Y special meal, they'll either give me the Y special meal on an F tray or let me choose. This has happened on totally full flights, so it can't be an issue of spare meals either.

They don't always remember the special meal in the first place, but that's another matter.

Just had to add--my spouse and I ordered the vegetarian meals on BA, and they were appalling! I guess BA equates vegetarian with low cal, because the meals were very, very light on calories and inedible besides.

Air Canada's special meal menu choices are very good.

My preference is for the low fat meal......which is actually very tasty.

And yes, on AC......they follow you to first class if you get the upgrade....albeit in a different form.
