flight delay

My flight was delayed for over 18 hours. I am wondering if the airlines is liable to pay any compensation such as free flight coupon and/or cash in additionl to the free hotel stay and food voucher that the airlines offered.

Also, what was the stated reason for the delay? What was the real reaso -- if it was different and you know it...

It was a Northwest Airlines flight from JFK to Tokyo. The reason of delay was a mechanical problem (one of the engine needed repair) that couldn't be fixed within a short period of time because spare parts had to be ordered.

Is the flight NW17 at 11am? If it was delayed for 18 hours, then it departed JFK at 5am? Did they give you a hotel room to stay? At least they should have given accommodation + meals for such a long and overnight delay.
