Yankees game logistics
 

I'm thinking about going to the Yankees-A's game on Friday the 26th when I'm in NY on business, and have a couple of questions for those of you that go to games frequently:

1. Sightlines. At old Comiskey Park, you used to have to be really careful about selecting seats, because seats down the baselines didn't face back into the infield. Instead, you would end up looking at the warning track and the bleachers, and have a stiff neck by the end of the game from twisting it to see the action. Based on what I got out of Ticketmaster, I have main three seating choices:

- ground level all the way in the right field corner, but fifth or sixth row
- 200 series halfway down the left field line
- 600 series over the top of the 1st base on deck circle

Normally I would go with the more expensive ticket, but the map makes it look like I'd be spending the entire game staring at Monument Park.

2. Train logistics/travel time - how much time would it take to get from Penn Station to Yankee Stadium by public transportation?

From Penn Station, it would take about 30 minutes to get to 'the shrine.' http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I suggest taking the 7th ave train to 42 street. From 42 st, take the shuttle to Grand Central. At Grand Central, follow signs for the Lexington Ave (#4) train uptown. From Grand Central, it's 20 minutes.

As all Yankee fans know, you can buy a ticket anywhere in the park, cause any seat is good. But, some of course are better.
About upgrading...

There are some who visit YANKEE stadium, who after entering, just take any open seat.
I prefer not to start a discussion about self-upgrading of seats as I don't want a new debate here between some foreign nationals. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I'd rather sit in Yankee Stadium than accrue frequent flyer miles!

Even a Mets fan would know that the quickest way from Penn Station to Yankee Stadium would be to walk one block east to the Herald Square Station and take the "D" train direct to Yankee Stadium. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Admittedly, virtually every seat is good, though I would recommend the 200 level that's closer to the infield.

The more the merrier for the whole weekend as far as I'm concerned! My plan is to relax Friday night, sightsee Saturday and then head down to BWI via Amtrak on Saturday evening/night.

You could walk a block and take the D train, OR you could take the #2 and change to the #4 at 149th St.

The nice thing about arriving on the #4 is that the platform is elevated and next to the stadium.

Of the seat choices listed, I would take the 200-series. The upper deck is quite high, and the Big Ballyard in the Bronx's only fault is that it isn't exactly intimate.

Of course, I still wear a Washington Senators cap when I go to ballgames, so you could probably guess how I feel about the players wearing pinstripes even without that first paragraph.

I pretty much hate the Yankees and tolerate the A's, but I like going to other ballparks on general principles.
