DFW viewing area?

I was flying into DFW last night and landing on a runway that took us to one corner of the airport. As it was late at night, I couldn't orientate myself very well to tell which corner.

When we landed, I saw that there was an area where people were watching the planes land and take-off. There were benches, cars parked, and three flag poles. There was also a fence separating them from the airport area. I think it was the North West corner of the airport. Does anyone know where it is and how I got get there? I would like to drive over there and look around.

bagold,
The area for viewing at DFW is called Founder's Plaza and is in the SE corner of the airport. You get to the area off of Airfield South Drive. You would take a left at 30th Street and the park will be on your right. It was built in the mid-90s and does have ATC on speakers if you go up to the monument. I haven't made my way there in about a year. It's really only worth going to when there's a North wind which is when planes will be landing from the South. To get further info on the park, go to this website and click on the Founder's Plaza link on the right side of the site. Enjoy.

Apple: Great Info! I've flown into DFW over 20 times in the past year and never knew about that viewing area.

You were in DFW and you didn't let your oneworld brothers next to the airport know? Shame on you! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Founders' Plaza is a fun place to spend some time, though it's more entertaining if you have your own radio so that you can monitor all of the appropriate frequencies.

If you've got a way to get to Founders' Plaza, you might also want to visit the CR Smith Museum, which is only a couple of miles south of the airport.

Apple,

Thank you very much for the information. I definitely got my bearings wrong! I will check it out.

Bollar,

Sorry we didn't meet up. I come into DFW quite often because of work but normally on UA. I love 1w but only get the chance to fly them internationally and occasionally on AA domestic.
