Computer Adapters on Airplanes
 

I recently got a new notebook and ended up with an aftermarket adapter kit that will allow me to plug my computer into the cigarette lighter in my car (can't wait to do expense reports at 80 MPH) or into an airplane seat. I have not (to my knowledge) been on a plane that provides such plugs. Anyone know what planes/airlines provide this?

Delta has them in First or Business class on all widebodies and 737-800's. They are also in coach on the 737-800's.

Swissair now has them working on their longhaul flights, at least in First and Business.

United has them on a lot of planes, but they seem to be deactivated most of the time.

They are on other airlines, but I don't have firsthand knowledge on what aircraft they are deployed.

I've had much better luck with laptop power on recent United flights than cockpit audio on Channel 9. Grr.

100% working laptop power; 100% success getting upgrades; maybe 30% with cockpit audio. On my last flight, we had cockpit audio during taxi, but it fell silent shortly after takeoff. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the purser, since the cockpit door remained closed after landing.

EPS, if the question is relevant, what percentage of time do you find cockpit audio on for international flights? To me, lately it seems that flights to/from Narita have had ATC on perhaps a bit more than 50% of the time.

I think if you fly as much as I do, you'll find it useful. Wednesday, I am flying an MD-11 from PDX-CVG (not for long though) on DL, and specifically book this flight because of the laptop power (okay, mostly for the seat in business elite) and then Friday I am flying ATL-LAX...again I booked it because of the laptop power. Its nice to get 3+ hours of laptop use. DL's available was previously mentioned in this thread by OPUS 17

USAirways has power on Airbuses.
American has selected rows in coach. The 1st, business and preferred blocked seats have power but as you go back in coach it becomes every other row in general. You can call reservations and they can pull up a star (?) file for your aircraft type that has the power locations by seat number.

UAL Traveler: I haven't flown internationally for almost a year and a half.

But 20 domestic UA segments so far this year.

The inflight power adaptor is great for long-haul flights, especially if you have a DVD drive, and a noise-cancelling headset.

If you fly Lufthansa, you don't need an adapter. They have normal AC sockets in Biz and First. I don't know why other airlines can't accomplish this simple task.

American has more power outlets than any other airline.
