Where did we ever get the idea that we need tip everyone we come across? When I travel on company business which is frequently my company puts me up at decent hotels (Marriott, Hilton etc.) and they are paying a lot of money depending upon location. These hotels are making enough to pay their help a decent living wage and I see no reason for me to have to add to it. The last time I ordered room service they automatically added a flat $6.50 Room Service charge to the cost of the items that I ordered and then added a 15% service charge on top of that. I am ****ed if I will pay another cent to anyone when I am facing these type of costs.

In a way I agree with you, since the Corp rate is usually higher than other rates, the hotels do get extra cash for our stays.

Take my job for instance, I usually stay at a hotel for up to 10 nights, these hotels love us because we are kind like their main revenue.

My company does not prohibit us from tipping maids, but they do discourge excessive tipping, say $5 everyday. Once in NYC, when my wife and my mom were staying in my room, i tipped about $4 to the maids, since they had to do "extra" work. When I expensed the tips, my company gladly paid me back.

My rules are:
-If i am alone i will usually never tip, unless something very very special was done.
-I'll tip a little if i'm not alone.
-Never tip the bellops, since i don't need them
