Gatwick-Heathrow
Hi,
I need to transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow (and vice versa) within 6 hours. How should it best be done? Thanks! Maple |
The Speedlink coach is the quickest way. It runs between all terminals at Heathrow and both north and south terminals at Gatwick along the M25. It takes about an hour. If you're connecting to or from a BA longhaul service you can ride it free. Otherwise the fare was GBP17 one-way last I looked.

If you are not travelling BA-BA and want to venture it, try this:
Rail from Gatwick to West Brompton (train runs at least every hour). This should run GBP 7-8. Buy a Zone 2-6 underground ticket (GBP 2-3) and take a District Line train one stop to Earls Court. Then change platforms to get a District Line train going towards Hammersmith/Acton Town. Cross platform to the Picadilly Line bound for Heathrow (not all Picadilly Line trains go to Heathrow so be aware of that). Should run GBP 11 max. and take about 2-3 hrs. If you have six hours, consider this:
Gatwick Express to London Victoria. Leave your heavy stuff at the Left Baggage storage area at Victoria. Walk around for a couple of hours. Lots of interesting spots, starting with Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey, are within easy walking distance of Victoria Station. Then have a beer at a nearby pub. Finally, back to Victoria, pick up your stuff, and tube (Circle Line, make sure it's running without major delays or interruptions) or cab to Paddington and the Heathrow Express. |
Just my little experience...if you take tube, try NOT to take "District Line" (I think you may be OK by just going "Circle line") District line has many branches and the station changing them (forgotton the name) is in a mess... I missed my flight last time that way.

Speedlink is the way to go. It costs 12 pounds for a one way ticket and takes about 1 hour.

Agreed - speedlink or die on the m25
