Fleet Information
Everybody is always talking about what type of planes each carrier owns. This information is from today's WSJ.

Are they the largest operator? Where do AA's A300s fly? I don't recall ever being on one in Chicago. Very interesting stuff. Thanks for the post. The UA numbers may not be totally accurate - see the threads on the UA boards about the DC10s. As for the AA A300 - I know they go BOS-LHR and BOS-CDG. |
The statistic that jumps off the page for me is the outrageous number of MD-80's operated by AA. I knew they had a lot of them, but...
As for AA's A300's, they used to fly them between ORD and MIA but I haven't seen one at ORD for some time. Aren't they also flown on some Caribbean routes? |
AA uses the 300 in two configs. One is the int'l 3-class version that mostly serves LHR from the US east coast. The other is a domestic 2-class config that operates from east coast gateways to the Caribbean.
As for the merger, one downside has to be the acquisition of another 100 MD80/83s. Yuk! |
Jack, haha. I hate those MD80's. I was finally excitied that AA was starting to phase them out with the 737NG's. American will have some major plane confusion. What will they do with the 717's? They'll most likely cancel future orders but how do they dump the ones TWA already has? Sell 'em to AirTran?
Don't forget that they'll be aquiring US Air's F100 (IMHO the only mainline plane worse than the MD80). I guess what it comes down to is that I don't like AA's fleet very much. I also hate that from Chicago AA competes on several large routes (vs. UA) using Eagle RJ's. For example CMH. |
