Time to kill in Munich

My wife and I will be spending New Years Eve in Munich this year and I hope someone can give us some suggestions for the following...

a) We arrive at 8am and we can't get in to our hotel (Hilton City) until after 2pm. What can we do to kill some time? Can we store our luggage at the hilton (skis, etc.)?

b) What should we do for New Years festivities? We would like to go someplace fun, exciting, and not overly fancy.

When you arrive at Munich airport you probably won' t be at the hotel before 10, just walk up to the desk nicely and ask
if they let you check in, works 90% of the time.

If you arrive at 0800 airport, it will take you about 75 minutes to get downtown if you use rail, 45 if cab. Yes, you can store luggage at all hotels. Hilton is on the edge of the English Garden so, it being Sunday morning, a refreshing walk is probably your best bet, followed by a coffee which should put you close to noon. Chances are good that your room will be ready then if you check in upon arrival at hotel.

New Year's Eve, or Sylvesterabend, is a big deal in Germany and all the hotels have rather fancy parties. Just look and ask around and you will surely be directed to a
number of possibilities.

Viel Vernuegen usw u. sofort.

I arrived in Munich at 8 on a Sunday morning, took the bahn into town (station is under the hotel, VERY convenient). I was able to get into a room right away. Maybe it was my German surname! (But, yes, they do have storage space.) There's a nice bakery just down the street, so you could spend a few minutes ogling/enjoying the wonderful breads and pastries if you need a little fresh air and time to stretch your legs.

Arrived at MUC at around 7:45AM and got took the 35-minute S-bahn ride to the Hilton City (Rosenheimerplatz stop if I recall). Got to the Hilton City at 9:00AM. Checked in but no rooms were available, so I left my bags with the bellman and went back onto the S-bahn and took the 3-minute ride to Marienplatz to walk around. You could easily kill three hours doing a walking tour of the Old Town. My room was available by the time I returned at 12 noon (but they had told me that 12 noon would be fine earlier in the AM).
