Did you get "bumped" this weekend?
Just curious. Lots of discussion these past few weeks of bumping strategies in the ever present quest for $$ and FF miles. Since so many of us were traveling this weekend, I wonder how many of us actually got bumped (either voluntarily or involuntarily)?
Myself, on four flights last week, with two on the day before turkey day, no bumps http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif However, on tuesday while I was at SJC, AA was offering $500 for volunteers on the SJC-SAN to take a later connecting flight through LAX. This morning, AA is oversold on the 8:00 a.m. LAX-SJC flight and is so far offering $200 to take the 9:50 a.m. flight. The 6:00 a.m. went off without a hitch. So far in my turkey day travels, not many bumping opportunities. |

Not bumped - got it the other way - an upgrade to Business on AA all the way MIA to LHR - and I was on a discounted economy fare... thanks !

My upgrade came through on wednesday night's red-eye (US) SEA-PHL with plenty of open seats in coach. I didn't get to sit up front however on the long haul back PHL-SEA. And actually, on my Thanksgiving morning USAirways Express PHL-GON (Groton/NewLondon, CT) flight there were 4 people on the Beechcraft 1900... and two of them were the pilots! I wondered to myself what I was getting into when the pilots told us that we may have to move to the back of the plane depending on the winds at arrival. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif [This message has been edited by chexfan (edited 11-27-2000).] |
I didnt get bumped but it was close. A domestic flight was overbooked with 3 persons. When I checked in I mention this and told I could volunteer. They thanked me and told me to wait before I boarded. A few minutes before departure they told me that the flight wasnt going to be full afterall but they gave me a servicecheck of 75SEk because I offered my help.

Atlanta - LHR on United. No Bumps, full flights. Capacity control seems to be becoming a science.

STL-DEN on UA was oversold a bit and they were glad I volunteered. They were offering $300 and a non-stop STL-LAX on TWA a few hours later. I hung around the counter and they called a couple, giving them my seats. I was all excited when I saw that, thinking about where I can go with the $300 voucher when the agent called me and gave me upgraded seats in F. So close yet so far...

I'm guessing it was an operational UG due to an overbooked economy class cabin?

The 11/18/00 7:10 AM CO flight SAN-IAH-CUN offered a $300.00 bump and next flight out at 9:30 AM. As it turned out, I should have taken it up. While waiting to push away from the gate, I noticed it was 82 degrees. On pushback, mentioned it to the FA and she just smerked and said 'oh, yah". The captain was busy with takeoff. We get to the end of the runway and wait. The captain says, there is a problem with the airconditioning, and it will be necessary to add fuel and fly low altitude, if it isn't able to be fixed!
Doesn't take long, but we are late for my connection and I end up on the later flight to CUN anyway without the $300.00. The return on 11/25 was no better. On the IAH-SAN segment, we circle for 1/2 hour over Imperial because of fog at SAN. 10 other planes are doing the same. We attempt a landing and the fog is thick, so we head to LAX and are bussed back to SAN arriving 4 hours late. No bumps on 6 legs on United. Flew them on Thanksgiving day and the day after. Every seat on every plane was taken, but no bumps. Excellent job on capacity control by United!

Both directions SFO/LHR on UA in C - empty seat next to me. However on an LAX/SFO shuttle, was in Y in only my 2nd non-upgraded seat of the year on UA.

Well... my one is mixed.... maybe my bad-luck in london turn out helped me for $1000!
With the problem of the Tube (london underground), I missed my latest flight of Sunday night from LHR-ORD. they rebooked me to Monday morning LGW-DFW and I need to spend around US$150 for hotel and food. I have connection DFW-DTW on Monday 7pm. Standby 5pm, no hope. Since they asked volunteer for that 5pm flight. So I go to gate for my Confirmed 7pm flight ans say I can volunteer. They need me, $400 and a free hotel and rebooked tomorrow 6:45am. As usual I check-in at check-in counter, the agent knows I have no checked luggage and asked me to volunteer for $400 and rebook on 12:30pm, I say yes and they finailly need it. The gate agent even rebooked me "F" . At 12:30's flight I volunteered again and they need my seat. paid me $200 BUT rebook me only at exit row "y"" for flight at 2:30pm. I volunteered at 2:30 flight, I am the 1st on volunteer list but at last they don;t need any volunteer. So I get back home Tue night instead of Sun night with $1000 voucher (minus $150 spent in LGW) equals net $850!! Cool..... I miised the lesson on Monday, but gained $850! Enough for two Europe trip OR one trip to go back home http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I |
A woman in the office claimed to have been bumped. She didn't come to work until Monday afternoon. She said the last flight of the day on US IAH-CLT was overbooked (6:35p.m.). She claimed that there weren't enough volunteers so they kicked several people off the plane, including her. Since she had relatives in Houston, she opted for a $100 voucher instead of a hotel room.
Sounds like lying to me. I though denied boarding compensation was higher than a $100 voucher. |
2 VDBs on a single UA Shuttle segment.

$200 travel credit (confirmed on flight 2 hrs. later)
$400 travel credit + hotel voucher; $100 travel certificate next day
= $700. This was on a "V" fare, BTW. |
